My son's artistic journey began when he was around three and a half years old, using sketch pencils and crayons to create his first drawings. Initially, I didn't pay much attention to his creations, but as time passed, we introduced Dabble's toxin-free acrylic paints, allowing him to explore his creativity at home. While I often complained about the mess and perceived waste of materials, my skepticism gradually faded as his interest persisted.
In November 2024, my family attended an art event hosted by Dabble, an experience that ignited my son's passion for drawing. From that day forward, he dedicated himself to creating artwork almost daily, proudly presenting his creations to me. However, my responses were dismissive, merely acknowledging his efforts with a cursory "It's good, go do another painting," as I remained preoccupied with work.
One day, he showed me a drawing that struck a chord within me – a depiction of our family, with me standing apart from the rest. This poignant image made me realize how disconnected I had become, immersed in work while my son sought to connect with me through his art. That moment was a turning point, prompting me to become more present and encouraging, not only in his artistic pursuits but also in activities like tennis and other creative endeavors.
Recently, he painted something that truly astounded me. Initially, I saw him covering the canvas in red and hastily dismissed it as a waste of paint and canvas before walking away to focus on work. However, 30 minutes later, he presented me with the finished painting, and it left me awestruck. It was then that I realized – we often fail to recognize a child's true potential and unique perspective simply because we assume we know better. In doing so, we overlook the fresh and unfiltered creativity of the next generation, a mistake I vowed never to repeat.
